The University of Colorado Colorado Springs is now enabling students, faculty, and staff to add their Lion OneCard to their smartphones and watches to leverage mobile credentials across campus. The move to mobile credentials is being led by UCCS’ Office of Information Technology and includes a mobile credentialing program, contactless payment, building access, and more.

Auburn University is in the process of installing new, contactless card readers on all doors across campus as part of a project that will see all students, faculty and staff be issued new contactless credentials. The campus-wide overhaul is intended to enable easier access to university facilities with contactless entry, as well as increase security as the university moves away from its existing magstripe infrastructure.

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is working with Pharos to deliver touchless printing for its students and campus community. The Pharos system has updated several of UNC’s campus printing stations to support touch-free printing, and is one of the many measures the campus has taken to eliminate touch points during the pandemic.

This month marked the start of a new contact tracing program at the University of Southern California that’s leveraging the student ID card to notify students of possible exposure. The “Tap for Tracing” pilot program is enabling students to tap their university ID card when they arrive at one of five designated locations on campus to then be notified within 24 hours if anyone else who tapped in at that location has tested positive for the coronavirus.

Physical access solutions provider, ASSA ABLOY, is presenting a series of webinars detailing mobile credentials on university campuses. The Coffee Time Webinar Series will present bi-weekly, one-hour virtual discussions, where attendees will hear from industry leaders and other universities as they share their perspective and experiences with optimizing the student experience through mobile credentials.

Trusted identity solutions provider, HID Global, announced an expansion to its Seos credential family, adding two new products to the line. The Seos 16K marks the first credential certified to the highest IT security level with 16 kilobytes of memory, and Seos Essential is the company’s new, single-application credential that delivers trusted security and data protection for less complex deployments.

Mercer University is in year two of its Transact Mobile Credential deployment, and to mark the success of the initiative, Transact has pulled together a video highlighting the major benefits that the Mercer community has seen since launch.
