Texas’ Lufkin High School has installed fingerprint readers at exterior entrances to campus for students and faculty access. The move makes Lufkin the first high school in East Texas to install keyless entry fingerprint scanners at campus entry-points.

A number of universities in China have turned to biometrics to support access control to academic and residence facilities, and a new dorm at Shanghai Normal University is taking this trend to another level.

A university in Buenos Aires, Argentina could b set to issue multi-function, biometric-enabled student ID cards. The cards will come from manufacturer SmartMetric via the company’s regional distributor Grupo Datco.

Denmark’s Copenhagen Business School will be one of the first institutions in the world to enable students to make purchases in a restaurant and coffee shop using only their finger.

Marshall University students will soon be able to enter campus dining halls with their fingerprint, adding an alternative to the student ID card. At participating elementary schools across Singapore, students will soon be able to make purchases with the touch of a finger thanks to a new biometric program from POSB Bank. The addition of biometrics will be a new feature added to the existing Smart Buddy program that enables students in the region to make purchases via smart wrist watches at participating POS terminals.

Biometric technology company, Zwipe, has partnered with London’s Rose Bruford College to overhaul the campus’ physical security needs by introducing a combination of biometric and contactless access control. The solution is a fingerprint activated contactless credential that works with both 125kHz and 13.56MHz infrastructures already in place on a campus.
