As part of a new service expected to increase ticket revenue and streamline ticket resale, the University of Virginia Athletics has partnered with StubHub. The partnership will replace the existing Virginia Ticket Marketplace as the official ticket reseller for all university football and men’s basketball games.
Per a report from The Cavalier Daily, the move to StubHub will not affect student tickets, as they will still utilize student IDs for admission to football games. The existing request and claim process for student seats in Virginia’s basketball arena will also remain unchanged.
As was the case with the Virginia Ticket Marketplace, fans will be able to sell their tickets above face value on StubHub. The new system is expected to make exchanging tickets electronically more efficient, and university officials say StubHub will integrate well with the current system, as well as be accompanied by an increase in ticket revenue.
Spectra Ticketing & Fan Engagement, Virginia’s previous ticketing service and software provider, maintained the Virginia Ticket Marketplace and has a longstanding relationship with the university. Spectra already has a partnership in place with StubHub that enables fans to access a greater audience to buy and sell tickets.
StubHub maintains partnerships with a growing roster of intercollegiate athletics departments nationwide, including Alabama, Arizona State, Clemson, Florida, Florida State, Georgetown, Georgia, Louisville, Maryland, Miami, Michigan, North Carolina, Purdue, Southern Miss, Texas A&M, Tennessee, USC, Virginia Tech, Washington and Wisconsin.
