The University of Utah is plotting a new card design for student UCards and is accepting card design submissions from the campus community.
According to a report from the Daily Utah Chronicle, the decision to update the UCard design came after UCard Operations Manager attended numerous conferences and saw other institutions’ ID card designs. It’s fairly common practice for campuses to amend campus card designs every few years, making Utah’s change a timely one having maintained the current UCard design for five years.
UCard officials say the change will adopt a cleaner look that will simplify the overall design and eliminate some of the clutter on the current cards.
As part of the design process, Utah is holding a design contest that will run through April 18 and is open to current students, alumni, faculty and staff 18 years of age or older. Judges will winnow the submissions down to ten finalists whose designs will be displayed for public voting. The winning design will be selected April 29 and will receive a 128GB iPad Pro as a prize. Second and third place entries will receive $200 and $100 gift cards to Utah’s Campus Store.
Utah is also providing parameters for entries including card dimensions (2 1/8” x 3 3/8”), required space for a student photo and university student ID number, and requisite space for the words “For Campus Use Only.” The design must also include one of two updated UCard logos that feature a new linear font.
Submissions should also have a resolution of 300 dpi and should be submitted online by April 18 at 11:59 p.m. Each design must be submitted separately. Utah has launched a website specifically for the design contest that lists all parameters for card designs, and is where designs themselves are to be submitted.
