Students, faculty and staff at the University of British Columbia can now use the HonkMobile app to search for, pay and top up their parking session from their phone or tablet.
The HonkMobile app is now available for 40 lots on UBC’s 49,000-student Vancouver campus. The cloud-based app is already accepted at over 550 locations and 50,000 parking spaces across Canada and the United States. The app isn’t just limited to campus as drivers can, from a single account, pay for parking anywhere HonkMobile is accepted across North America.
“UBC is a world class teaching and research institution that attracts some of the best and brightest. They are tech- and mobile-savvy and connected and their time is very valuable to them,” says Brian Jones, Director of Parking Access at the University of British Columbia. “HonkMobile provides a payments solution that is simple, effective and meets their needs for taking something relatively mundane and making it a non-issue. Put another way, we don’t want their day to begin and end by having a sub-optimal parking experience.”
The app is fee to download and enables drivers to bypass parking meters altogether, as well as eliminates the need to drive around searching for a parking lot and an open space. Drivers can receive alerts 15 minutes prior to the expiration of their parking session, allowing them to pay for additional time remotely and preventing them from getting a ticket. The app also stores and manages parking receipts.
HonkMobile is already live in cities across North America, as well as at a host of Canadian universities. UBC joins a host of other campuses, including Ontario’s Conestoga College, that have adopted the parking app. Other campuses currently leveraging the app include Canada’s Wilfrid Laurier University, the University of Western Ontario and the University of Windsor.
