The Student Senate of Grand Valley State University, Allendale, Mich., has proposed a new ID card that would combine several functions and would enable students to carry just one card, instead of several.
The senate-passed resolution calls for a new card that would double as a room key, laundry card and an ATM card.
“When we started looking into other schools’ ID cards, we were amazed by the capabilities of some of the ID cards,” said Craig Flora, a student senate member who authored the resolution.
“I personally am very supportive of having one ID card opposed to three,” said Lindsay Viviano, vice president of the Public Relations Committee. “I know as a freshman, it was a bit inconvenient always having to carry multiple cards, especially since so many other universities have only one card,”
Flora emphasized that just because the student senate has adopted the proposal doesn’t mean it will be implemented on campus.
Doug Wentworth, director of auxiliary services, said it is “a more complex issue than it might appear on the surface, and it involves many different departments on campus.”
