The Indian Institute of Management in Bangalore is in the process of providing its alumni members with smart ID cards so that they can continue receiving all the perks of being an IIM-B student, according to Express Buzz.
The institute is working to make its smart ID cards serve dual purposes, using it as both a form of payment and a form of authentication for accessing on-campus resources.
The new cards will allow its some 8,500 alumni members to continue receiving easy access onto the campus to visit with their family, attend career consultations, and purchase souvenirs and merchandise of IIM-B brands. Alumni may also use the library for its resources including the ability to browse the Internet, reference archives, and any other resources offered within the facility.
Campus officials are also working with banks to establish a means of co-branding its smart ID cards. Charges collected for swapping would be shared between the banks and IIM-B, in which the campus could use the money to give scholarships to enrolling students.
