Security breach at New York college puts credit cards at risk
If you want to use a credit or debit card at College of Brockport dining halls, forget it. Until the end of the school term, it’s mostly cash only due to a security breach which affected hundreds of credit and debit cards from students, staff and faculty.
The school has identified the source of the hack and authorities are investigating.
Students can still use dining plans and Easy Money, the school’s debit spending account, at dining halls since those weren’t affected by the breach.
“People are getting hundreds of dollars taken out of their accounts off of their credit cards,” said one student, while another added: “I know a couple of people who were affected and their cards were used in other states too.”
Things should be back to normal for students within a couple of weeks, say college officials. Until then many of those affected by the breach say they’ll stay on guard and keep a close eye on their money.
