The off-campus program at the University of Pittsburgh has grown into one of the more extensive networks in the country. Core to that success has been the dedicated efforts of both university personnel and card system vendor Blackboard.
Underpinning the growth of Pitt’s off-campus network is the university’s move to managed services, and leaving behind the days of self operating every aspect of the program. The self-op vs. managed services debate is one that has different answers for different campuses. Neither avenue is wrong, and it really comes down to the size and breadth of your off-campus network and the personnel your campus has available to manage the program.
Pitt has been utilizing managed services for just over a decade now, and the results have been dramatic with students able to use their Panther Cards at more than 55 local merchants and loading in excess of $5 million to their campus card accounts annually.
