Eisenhower Middle School, in Wyckoff, New Jersey, is organizing an experimental program that will allow parents to deposit money for their children’s school expenses into a secure online account, reports NorthJersey.com.
Using payforit.net parents can create an online account for their children and deposit money for school expenses such as school lunches and after school activities. Records are kept throughout the year so the parents can also keep track of their child’s spending habits and make adjustments as necessary.
To make a purchase students input their student ID numbers on one of four pin pads at the cash registers, which calls up student information and a photo of the student on a computer screen.
Each time a student makes a purchase they are charged a 5.75% convenience fee, which can be paid by the parent, the district, or split between the district and parent.
School district officials say if the pilot program at Eisenhower works, it could be implemented at other schools in the K-8 district and expanded.
