In an effort to eliminate the wrongful use of student ID cards at dining halls at Muskingum, New Concord, OH, dining services personnel are now matching faces to every card that comes through the door.
Bandmonline.com reports that Muskingum University has always maintained a strict policy on fraudulent student ID use in dining halls. A practice that can give the student a sit-down meal at the dining hall, or could be used as dining dollars at various on-campus locations.
The latest crackdown in security has employees verifying and every face to every card and disallowing students to swipe friends in with the school’s unlimited meal plan. Under the new restrictions, students are only permitted to swipe in another student using guest swipes. Each student is given two guest swipes per semester.
In the even that a student forgot or misplaced their ID card, purchases could still be made at campus locations using dining dollars— provided the student memorized their 10-digit ID number. As part of the recent crackdown, this is practice will no longer be accepted.
Reasoning is simple; students could easily record or memorize the 10-digit number of other students, allowing them to use the card’s dining dollars without the owner’s consent.
Muskingum employees are taking student ID fraud seriously, reporting any misuse or suspicious behavior directly to campus police.
