McDaniel College, Westminster, Md., and CardSmith have rolled out an expansion and upgrade of the school’s ID card program. The new 1Card offers students, faculty and staff cashless access to more campus facilities and services including the bookstore, dining, vending and laundry machines, print and copy services and off-campus merchants.
The college has already issued new cards to incoming students and re-encoded cards for returning students.
The card features on-line and mobile account access with value transfer functions and self-service capabilities for students and parents. Acceptance of the card’s prepaid spending account, McDaniel Bucks, has also been extended to the surrounding merchant community.
The program is powered by CardSmith’s cloud-based transaction systems, enabling the college to create a cashless environment without local systems, software or dedicated administrative staff. The company will also provide marketing services, including management of a new card program Web site, print and direct mail services and electronic communications. CardSmith will also manage the off-campus merchant program.
“Students have been asking for an off-campus merchant program, and we are pleased to be delivering that as well. This is a major project because our ID card touches virtually all auxiliaries and facilities on campus,” said Ethan Seidel, the school’s vice president of Administration and Finance.
