Indian state to implement biometrics in schools

In an effort to better control drop-out rates among students as well as absenteeism among teachers, the Gujarat government in India has decided to install biometric systems in all their state-run primary schools to keep tabs on attendance, according to a Sindh Today article.

As the rates concerning missing teachers and students in the area had been noticeably rising as of late, Gujarat Chief Minister Narenda Modi issued the order for the early stages attempting to refurbish the education system.

The system they intend to implement soon would see the monitoring of daily attendance of both teachers and students via a biometrics check-in system. Though all schools enrolled in the program would be setup to be monitored via the web by a central location, it would require that each school upload their daily data to the municipal school authority Web site.
