India college issues smart ID cards for 1,000 students

CampusIDNews Staff   ||   Nov 12, 2013  ||

The Yashwantrao Chavan College, run by the Kolhapur Municipal Corporation (KMC), will issue smart ID cards to 1,000 students admitted for the academic year 2013-14, according to The Times of India.

The smart ID cards will help students access books from the college libraries and aid staff by enabling automatic data entry into software when students file exam-related applications, apart from functioning as an university identity card.

The new smart identity cards will be used for multiple purposes and provide detailed information on students: contacts, addresses, year of admission, admission number, blood groups and academic results of students will be stored in the smart cards.

Every student would be given a card with a unique number, which when entered into the software would help to get detailed information about the student cardholder. The cards would be updated from periodically with latest information about exam details, score cards and campus fines issued to students as well as attendance.
