Flipkart has started a new system that will provide college students with additional discounts. The company’s new Flipkart Students program will provide a wide variety of discounts in various categories.
Students scan or upload a picture of their student ID and email it directly to Flipkart, at which point the company activates an account for that student. The student ID is vetted within three days and then an account is opened for them.
Students will then begin receiving discounted offers. Flipkart also sends an SMS message to the student confirming discount activation if a phone number has been provided. In the event of rejection, users will be informed via email.
Flipkart is an Indian e-commerce and online retail company headquartered in Bangalore, Karnataka that was founded in 2007. The company also introduced its Flipkart First program in May, an annual subscription service for frequent shoppers similar to the Amazon Preim premium subscription service in the US.
The company’s resemblance to Amazon Prime is hardly coincidental, as the company seems to be positioning itself to do in India what Amazon Prime has accomplished in the US. Flipkart First offers unlimited access to in-a-day guaranteed delivery, free standard delivery with no minimum purchase price, same-day guaranteed delivery at a discounted price, and a bonus 60-day replacement guarantee, instead of the standard 30-day period.
