University of Kentucky athletics will change its processes for home sporting events, and move to a mobile student ticketing solution for both football and men’s basketball beginning this season.
According to an official university release, the new ticketing process was developed following feedback from students asking for mobile ticketing options and easier access to tickets. UK Athletics also consulted data from the Southeastern Conference’s annual fan experience surveys, conducted site visits with peer institutions and held meetings with UK Student Government, the Dean of Students Office, the President’s Office and Ticketmaster.
“Our goals in implementing this new system are to modernize our student ticketing process and use technology to make it as easy as possible for our students to purchase tickets and attend games,” says Mitch Barnhart, Athletics Director at the university of Kentucky. “We appreciate the feedback of our students and the partnership of many on campus to make this possible.”
UK has partnered with Experience (expapp.com) to transform the student ticketing process. The new mobile system will enable students to both purchase and access tickets via mobile device, meaning they will no longer have to visit the brick-and-mortar ticket office or participate in lotteries to secure tickets.
Students will also no longer enter the basketball and football facilities using paper tickets, but instead will claim mobile tickets to each home game during a designated window directly through the UK Athletics app.
Admission to all other regular season UK Athletics events besides football and men’s basketball will remain free for students. For those events, students will continue to show their valid UK student ID card at the gate for seating in select general admission areas.
During the season, students will be able to access any season passes they may have purchased directly on the UK Athletics app, which is available for free download from both the App Store and Android Marketplace. Season pass holders will also be prompted to claim a mobile ticket during a designated window prior to each home game.
University officials are also encouraging students to download BBN Rewards, the official student rewards app of UK Athletics. Through BBN Rewards, students can accumulate points by checking into events and then redeem those points for rewards, including Nike gear, exclusive UK Athletics experiences and more.
