Cornell University Dining services is giving students a new way to keep up with on-campus eateries. A new mobile-friendly web application called “Cornell Dining Now,” is providing real-time information about Cornell’s on-campus dining offerings.
According to the Cornell Daily Sun, the application had been in the works since July of 2015 and went live in October. The app is designed to give students easier access to the university’s 29 on-campus eateries. The app’s functions include clear displays of hours of operation, meal plan management and updated menus.
Cornell Dining Now can calculate the closest dining options based on a student’s current location, as well as send alerts for special promotions, add funds to meal plans and allow users to submit feedback to dining staff. The app was designed to be mobile-friendly, but is fully responsive on any device. Users can alternatively access the app from the Cornell Dining website or by bookmarking it on their device’s home page.
The app is being used for more than just menu updates, though. University officials can leverage the app to post notifications campus wide, including information about upcoming special events, themes for dining — which the university used during Diwali — as well as hiring notices at the various dining establishments.
Since the app’s release, university officials report some 10,000 users have accessed Cornell Dining Now, averaging 900 to 1,200 active users each day.
