CardSmith has purchased Vision Database Systems, a Jupiter, Fla.-based ID carding and mobile solutions provider. Vision Database Systems will become a wholly-owned subsidiary of CardSmith.
Emil Bonaduce will continue as Vision Database Systems president. He will become a CardSmith shareholder and will assume the additional duties of vice president of corporate development for CardSmith, says Jay Summerall, CardSmith’s president.
All Vision Database Systems staff will join Cardsmith, and business will continue as usual for Vision Database Systems’ customers and suppliers for the foreseeable future, says Summerall.
Summerall says Vision Database’s card production and verification solutions are complementary to CardSmith’s cloud transaction service, and the merger will lead to continued development of products involving contactless and mobile payments.
“I look forward to a tighter integration of our ID carding and mobile ID tracking products to create new products for our existing base of colleges, K12, corporate, and access control accounts worldwide,” says Bonaduce.
Next month, CardSmith and Vision Database Systems will be rolling out an ID verification solution and a new proximity card scanner at the American Society for Industrial Security convention in Philadelphia Sept. 10-12.
CardSmith, founded in 2004, provides a managed cloud-based transaction solution and turn-key card program for colleges and universities. Vision Database Systems, which was formed in 1991, specializes in ID card systems and tracking devices.
