Another university is trying to beef up security, particularly with housing. Northern Michigan University, Marquette, is in the process of installing a new system for its residence halls that will require students to use their campus card instead of a key to gain entrance to the dorms.
Students wishing to enter their residence hall can swipe their ID card through a card reader, which then accesses that student’s information, verifies that the card belongs to someone who lives in that dorm, and unlocks the door. Students, however, will still need a normal key to enter their individual dorm rooms.
