California high school implementing PlascoTrac attendance solution

Hacienda La Puente Unified School District in California is rolling out Hero, a cloud-based incident management solution from PlascoTrac as part of a new $20,000 student ID card system.

As part of the Hero solution, each Los Altos High School student will receive a new identification card with an unique bar code. School administrators and teachers will then use the cards to track attendance and reward or reprimand students accordingly.

“Now, if a student is tardy, they will scan their ID card at the attendance office window,” says Cheli McReynolds, principal at the high school. “It will register the tardy students and check their record. If the student has five tardy slips, the computer will automatically print out a detention ticket.”

Hero will process students and get them back into the classroom, eliminating the need to make an appointment with the vice principal. The system can also reward students, for example, if they wear school colors on spirit day.

According to the San Gabriel Valley Tribune, school officials have reported that enrollment has risen this year to more than 2,000 students, hence the need for a new and improved monitoring system. Under the new system, campus administrates will card portable scanner/printer devices to quickly and conveniently record student attendance.

School officials will also use Hero to help track attendance at special events and school activities, as it can provide in/out timestamps for dances, field trips and sporting events.
