Florida’s Santa Rosa School District is partnering with Illinois-based Durham School Services to enable parents and guardians to track their children’s bus rides.
Durham School Services is one of the nation’s largest provides of school bus transportation, and according to the Pensacola News Journal, will provide its bus tracking app to 19,000 of the Santa Rosa School District’s more than 27,000 students.
The app and website tracks buses traveling to school in the morning and back home in the afternoon, enabling parents to see their child’s current school bus location in almost real time. The app also pushes information about the route, including the estimated arrival time at home. Parents also can view multiple stops along each route, see scheduled arrival times for each stop and can track different buses simultaneously. To track a student, parents will need the child’s last name and student ID number.
The Durham Bus Tracker service has been promoted on the school district’s website and Facebook page where parents can download the app by scanning a QR code. Parents can also download the bus tracker app to their Apple or Android smartphone or tablet, and simply enter their child’s school identification number and receive information on the movement of the bus. Microsoft Windows phone, desktop or laptop users can log into the Durham Bus Tracker website.
The app and service are free and have been offered as part of Durham School Services’ five-year contract with the school district.
Based in Warrenville, Illinois, Durham School Services is supplying its bus tracking service to Florida’s Duval County School system, as well as select school districts in California, Michigan, Oregon and Wisconsin.
