Adding an off campus merchant program to your ID can raise student satisfaction, town-gown relations and even revenues. Off Campus Solutions’ Greg Baker detailed the range of options available to campuses, highlighting benefits and constraints with the various approaches.
Most campus food service operations have found that a merchant program does not negatively impact on campus dining and can, in fact, increase it when creative meal plan options are presented. According to Baker, some institutions have seen 500 to 1,000 new upperclassmen participate in meal plans when on and off-campus options are combined into a single plan.
He stresses that any campus card program should evaluate all options for ID-based merchant payments before selecting an approach, whether that be self-operated, hosted stand-alone or hosted and tied to the existing card solution.
