The University of Akron has used its campus card to reward loyal Zip fans, and in the process, raffled off a significant prize for four lucky students.
For the Zips’ football game against Bowling Green, four University of Akron students were selected and awarded with free tuition for the Spring semester 2015.
According to 19 Action News, all University of Akron students who entered InfoCision Stadium with their Zip Card student ID prior to kickoff were automatically entered into a drawing to win the tuition prize. The prize amount covers an undergraduate in-state Ohio resident tuition rate for up to 16 credit hours – an estimated worth of more than $4,000 – at Akron University’s main campus.
Three of the student winners were awarded the tuition prize via the student ID gate check-in, with a fourth student chosen as the winner of Akron’s Social Media Challenge. The social media student winner was the student to most often use the hashtag #ZipsBlackout on social media during a defined period of time that week.
Promoting athletic and other campus events is a constant challenge for a number of universities. So too is stressing the importance and value of the student ID card. The University of Akron found a way to blend the two into a single prize giveaway, and in the process, provided a few loyal Akron fans with a little respite on next year’s tuition bill.
