Personal information of 9,000 current and prospective students was inadvertently posted online by Valencia College in Orlando. The school has apologized for the mistake.
The information included the students’ names, addresses, dates of birth and student ID numbers but not their Social Security numbers or financial information.
The information was posted for seven months before the school found out and it was taken down. The school said it doesn’t plan to take legal action against the sub-contractor of the Web site because the school doesn’t believe anyone’s information was used.
Students aren’t so sure. They said they were concerned because their ID numbers would give crooks access to other types of important files, including their financial aid information.
