The big mobile credential announcement last month was the emergence of CBORD as the second campus card system vendor to support mobile student IDs on Apple devices. As one of the first CBORD partnering campuses, the University of Vermont is now beta testing mobile credentials on Apple devices.

The University of Connecticut has begun its campus wide recarding with the issuance of its new contactless smart card credentials for students, faculty and staff. The new Husky One Cards are now available for all members of the UConn community and those with emeritus status.

A study conducted by researchers at Michigan State University, along with vending and payment solutions provider USA Technologies, has found significant performance boosts in cashless-enabled vending machines as compared to units only accepting cash and coin. The report highlights the common practice of outfitting only high-volume machines with cashless technology, but the study’s findings suggest that low-performing vending machines can provide significant revenue growth once equipped with cashless hardware.

In 2017, the University of Georgia made the advancement of card technology a priority on campus. After long leaning on a combination of mag stripe and prox card technologies, the need to update and upgrade was more than evident. So UGA’s OneCard Oversight Committee examined its card environment from within, and focused its decision making on a desire to own the entire card system process — encryption keys and all.
