Smart cards to be issued to foreign spouses in Malaysia
About 70,000 foreign spouses with social visit passes will be issued personal identification smart cards, next year in Malaysia. The Deputy Home Minister of Malaysia, Datuk Tan Chai Ho, said many spouses were annoyed by having to carry their passports around and were worried it could become damaged or stolen while out and about. Officials said that the new spouse smart cards would be similar to the cards already being issued by the government to foreign students and workers.
