California State University enhances security with Schlage programmable locks

Students, faculty, and staff probably feel a little safer thanks to the more than 200 computer-controlled locks installed at CSU by IR Security and Safety. The locks can be operated by PIN, keyfob, or both and offer time-based control, master PIN access for security personnel, and other campus-friendly features. While making the college more secure, the system also meets state-mandated requirements for information security on the two-year-old campus.

Alacris, Gemplus partnership to produce turnkey smart card solution for Windows

Canadian firm Alacris has joined with Luxembourg-based Gemplus in a move to integrate a smart card with certificate management technology for enterprise Windows environments. The combined product will mean a smart card solution that not only brings additional security to Windows networking but also reduces the life-cycle management costs of supporting smart card and public key infrastructure deployments.

NACCU office up and running in Phoenix

The National Association of Campus Card Users has officially re-established its national office in Phoenix, AZ. New executive director, Lowell Adkins, successfully opened the new doors last month and has hired a new business manager for the association. Department of Homeland Security's SEVIS program ramps up for fall semester

Year two of the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) was noted recently by the Department of Homeland Security with an official welcome for some international students arriving at Dulles International Airport, part of some 220,000 expected to be attending American universities this fall. SEVIS is a web-based program for maintaining information on international students and exchange visitors and their dependents while in the U.S.

New Hampshire college selects Blackboard for expansion of student card program

Colby-Sawyer College, New London, NH, has selected the Blackboard Transaction System to expand its student debit card beyond the dining hall and across the entire campus. The new program will enable student commerce from the bookstore to the vending system, laundry facilities and photocopy equipment. Implementation began this month and will be completed in time for the spring semester.
