Sealy Independent School District (SISD), based out of Texas, is in the process of revamping its security policy – adding a new system of card swipe access points, in addition to more than 50 new video surveillance cameras.
According to The Sealy News, the district has an $182,000 project plan that includes teachers and staff to carry swipe cards to gain access to various on-campus facilities and buildings; a total of 33 doors requiring swipe card access across campuses.
The system will enable security to record and monitor who is entering buildings and when they are doing so. If a door is left open, the system notifies security via text message, so that they may respond promptly. Security can also cancel a specific card in the event that a swipe card becomes lost or stolen, or to terminate access to former employees.
In addition, cameras are set to be installed in the back of buildings, near bus lanes and parking lots at the local high school. The district has plans to initially mount 57 new video cameras, with the possibility of adding more in the future. Security can also use these cameras to monitor doorways from their personal smart phones.
