The University of Texas at Arlington was recently victimized by an outside computer attack, which resulted in unauthorized access to medical files belonging to nearly 30,000 faculty, staff and students, according to a local news report.
UTA officials say that in their investigation they discovered that a Student Health Services file server had been comprised up to four times between February 2009 and February 2010.
School officials also noted that more than 2,000 Social Security numbers in the files might have been put at risk, but there is no evidence that leads to believe the hackers actually stole any data. Just to be safe though, UTA is offering free credit monitoring for those persons affected.
UTA has since secured the health center computer files, and also set up a toll-free call center to answer questions.
