Students at Columbus State University will soon be able to swipe their smart phones like their student ID cards with the use of a new app developed by university programmers and Google.
The new app, which uses bar code technology, will enable students to check out books from the library, pay for on-campus dining and more.
The university began using Google applications in late 2008, starting with Gmail. The university also opted to pay an annual subscription for archiving and message retrieval capabilities.
Last October campus officials announced that future apps would allow students to check financial aid, admissions status, request an official transcript, and to check their grades.
Faculty will also be able to check class rosters that include student photos and take attendance using their cell phones. ![[end]](/resources/bullet/cr80news-4.gif)
