WSU student steals friend's campus card to seek medical attention

A Washington State University student has been charged with identity theft after using another student’s CougarCard to seek medical help.

The student and the victim were former friends, who had a falling out before the crime took place. When campus authorities approached the student she stated that she had permission from her friend to use the card, being that she didn’t have medical insurance.

A search warrant for the student’s phone revealed that the CougarCard was used without the victim’s consent. A search warrant was served for the student’s apartment, where police also found marijuana and paraphernalia.

The student’s case was resolved with a guilty plea to one gross-misdemeanor charge of second-degree attempted theft.
