UK agri-college selects SALTO to revamp its security

Monday, March 22, 2010

The Royal Agriculture College in the UK has selected SALTO Systems and its XS4 smart card based system to replace its key lock doors.

The upgrade is currently in the pilot phase, with two main entrance ways already fitted with SALTO WRM9000 series wall readers. Twenty bedrooms and four back of house office doors have been fitted with XS4 electronic locks.

The handle sets read, receive and write information via Mifare cards and since most access related information is kept encrypted on these cards the perimeter door mounted wall readers are able to update and receive information from the cards at any time.

The system uses SALTO’s data-on-card, SALTO Virtual Network technology which is capable of controlling an unlimited number of users and doors in a single system. [end]

Personal information of 9,000 current and prospective students was inadvertently posted online by Valencia College in Orlando. The school has apologized for the mistake.

The information included the students’ names, addresses, dates of birth and student ID numbers but not their Social Security numbers or financial information.
