Irish institute utilizes Salto for regulating facility access

Friday, March 5, 2010

A new building at Ireland’s Cork Institute of Technology has been equipped with a wireless XS4 access control system by Salto, according to info4security.com.

As part of the system, Mifare contactless smart cards, which also double up as a photo ID, were issued. The smart ID cards build up on-card audit trails through normal use giving Cork Institute of Technology complete control over access.

The two-story, 1,805 square meter building holds up to 90 researchers and support staff. Utilizing the RFID electronic locking systems provided by Salto, the Institute now has total control over who has access to the facilities at all times.

Besides the electronic door hardware, Salto’s virtual network software enables locks and key cards to be updated remotely and access privileges to be updated or revoked.
