Rec center with hand scanners opens at California university

Wednesday, August 19, 2009

Hand scanners will control admission to Chico State University’s new $63 million recreation center, which opened this week.

Before using the facility at the California school for the first time, students need to enter their ID number into a machine and have the size and shape of their hand scanned three times. The center includes weights, cardio machines, a pool and hot tub, fitness rooms for classes, an eighth-mile track, three basketball courts, multi-activity court and climbing wall.
