With new printing upgrades at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, students and staff will now only see their own print jobs at campus printing stations. The new security features will require university students and staff to sign in using their “onyen” and password at Information Technology Services printing stations.

Onyen, an acronym for the “only name you’ll ever need,” is what UNC calls its campus-wide identifier that is used to gain access to various electronic resources on campus.

The new features will also protect students from others using their accounts to pay for print jobs. For example, if a student fails to log out at a print station, no one else will be able to use his account to pay for documents, since only his own print jobs are viewable.

HID extends iCLASS to printers

HID Global announced an extension of its secure access and identification solutions to secure print authentication. The company is partnering with multi-function printer manufacturers and their application partners to develop secure print authentication solutions that enable HID Global customers to use iClass credentials on printers to reduce print costs and increase security and compliance.

Duke adds iPhone app to student ID

Duke University launched a mobile application for iPhones that enables students to find out news around campus, the closest dining hall and hours of operations. The university also wanted to add some campus card functionality to the app as well, says Matthew Drummond, director at the DukeCard Office.

Safe Card ID adds Zebra printer family

Schlage and ScreenCheck teams for expanded card personalization and printing

Ingersoll Rand Security Technologies, provider of security solutions and manufacturer of Schlage contactless smart credentials and readers, have entered into a partnership with ScreenCheck International which will let customers design, encode, print and manage its card population through ScreenCheck’s BadgeMaker Online software.

Safe Card ID now offers Evolis Printer and ID card software

Safe Card ID, an online retailer of security card printing systems and identity kits, is expanding its ID card software and printer line. The Evolis Printer joins Zebra printers to help Safe Card’s customers meet their in-house ID printing needs.
