Toronto, Canada-based ITC Systems has implemented a new library student pay for copy/print solution at the University of California at Irvine. The project involved replacing existing copier stored value readers with ITC’s online NetLink copier terminals.

“There were some initial teething issues with matching software systems and networks. However, we were able to jump on solutions quickly and ensure the UC Irvine library site experienced little or no downtime,” said ITC CEO Campbell Richardson.

The University’s library is using the ITC Systems’ flexible Multiplan Gold database program coupled with its networked Print Manager Suite.

ITC Systems specializes in Integrated Transaction Control Systems. The firm designs, develops and implements cash card management systems on university campuses and in public libraries, government departments, food service environments and other closed institutional settings.

UM Medical Center installs pharma track and trace system

Aethon announced recently that it’s automated tracking and chain-of-custody system - MedEx - is now operational at the University of Maryland Medical Center.

The MedEx System serves as enhancement to the TUG robot, also developed by Aethon, and allows hospital pharmacies to know the real-time location and status of medications throughout the facility. Combining passive RFID technology and biometrics capabilities built into the TUG secure carts, MedEx automatically creates an electronic chain-of-custody receipt including the person, location, and date/time indicating when an item is placed in and removed from the TUG.

Loyola expands campus card program

Loyola University, Chicago, is offering more buying power for its students through the campus card program, allowing them for the first time to take the card off-campus at local dining establishments. The program will start small, focusing on a handful of restaurants.

Colleges enable campus IDs for ATM debit transactions, California

Students at UC Davis and California State University, Sacramento now have the ability to link their campus ID cards to US Bank and Wells Fargo, respectively, according to the Sacramento Bee.

University of Virginia puts Schlage to the test

The University of Virginia recently participated in a test deployment of Schlage modular wireless locking systems, according to SecurityInfoWatch.

The university tested Schlage’s ANSI compliant AD-4000 wireless locks with dual credentialing, which allows students to use their campus issued ID card and a unique PIN to access residence halls and rooms. And because the locks are online and wireless, school officials have the ability to update access control permissions and create immediate lockdowns.

WVU shows some love for all-in-one campus IDs

It’s more a students’ photo identification. It’s an all-in-one solution for campus access, services and events. The Mountaineer Card, the official campus card for West Virginia University, is an essential part of student life, according to The Daily Athenaeum, the university’s official student newspaper.
