French bank chooses Gemalto to launch EMV card with user's photo

Tuesday, June 2, 2009

Digital security provider Gemalto has been selected by Le Crédit Lyonnais for the first banking card customized with a personal photograph in France. This EMV card is designed for students and aims to combine the advantages of a payment card with those of the International Student Identity Card.

With the ISIC card, users can make purchases worldwide and benefit from coupons from ISIC partners: 8,000 in France and 40,000 throughout 120 countries, for leisure, travel, accommodation and food.

LCL is a subsidiary of Crédit Agricole, a top banking group in France with 26 million customers. Gemalto provides the bank with a Web-based solution enabling users to upload their identity photograph onto the bank’s website. The company also supplies picture validation services and personalizes the cards. The service was rolled-out last month. [end]
