Albion College, CardSmith launch new campus card

Monday, May 11, 2009

Campus card provider CardSmith is upgrading Michigan-based Albion College’s campus card system to give students, faculty and staff access to a number of services on and around campus. With the new Albion 1Card, students will now be able to access residence halls, check out materials at the library, eat at all campus dining locations, buy textbooks and other items at the bookstore, make purchases at the campus post office, buy drinks and snacks at vending machines, use laundry facilities and make purchases at some off-campus businesses.

One new feature of the program is Briton Bucks, a prepaid spending account, enabling students, faculty, and staff a convenient way to make cashless purchases on and off campus. There are no fees associated with using or adding value to Briton Bucks and spending cannot exceed the prepaid balance in the account.

A Web site dedicated to the card program will be launched this summer with information about the card program, as well as a 24/7 secure Cardholder Account Center where students and parents can add value to Briton Bucks, manage account information, view transaction history, and more.

“The new Albion 1Card will simplify and enrich the everyday lives of our students, parents, faculty and other key stakeholders. At the same time, it will make our campus more efficient by reducing cash handling, simplifying back-end processes and improving operational intelligence,” said Todd Tekiele, director of Dining & Hospitality.

Albion’s 1,800 students and faculty and staff will receive their new 1Card this fall. [end]
