Card key access systems vandalized on campus

Since Ithaca College in New York implemented its card access program for dorms two months ago, six of the card readers have either been damaged or destroyed and, in one case, an entire reader was taken.

Still, six of 250 installed readers is less damage control than college administrators anticipated, even though it is costing the school $2,000 to fix. Besides the missing reader, other damage included pulled wires and defaced or destroyed casings. The college’s Public Safety department is targeting specific areas that have been hardest hit to see if it can prevent future vandalism to the readers.
