BYU email error makes student GPAs and IDs public

The Chronicle of Higher Education reports that an email error by a Brigham Young University employee inadvertently caused College of Humanities students GPAs and ID numbers to be sent out school-wide.

While some BYU students worried the information in the email, which was intended for the registrar’s office, could leave them vulnerable to ID theft, officials stressed that the ID numbers are “generated internally” and are not connected with a student’s Social Security number.
