Iona College creates data breach-free campus

New Rochelle, N.Y.-based Iona College has deployed a a security solution designed to protect against ID theft. The college has installed CampusWatch from Framingham, Mass.-based Identity Force, which is designed to eliminate the threat of data breaches while providing identity theft protection to students, faculty and staff.


CampusWatch protects against ID theft using prevention, detection, restoration and reimbursement tools to stop identity thieves. CampusWatch also helps colleges and universities comply with federal and state identity theft-related rules, laws and regulations.

The program also provides a financial literacy education program designed to help students become better able to manage financial matters, protect their personal information and eliminate threats caused by mishandling personal information.

CampusWatch provides on-line policies, training and education to eliminate the threat of data breaches. If an incident was to occur, a $50,000 safety net of notification and protection services would activate automatically.

Identity Force is a provider of proactive identity theft protection for individuals, businesses and government agencies. [end] 

More than 4,000 University of Maine students’ personal information may have been compromised in a recent server breach, according to Seacoast Online.

Accessed was a pair of files servers on the university’s Orno campus, containing names and Social Security numbers, as well as confidential clinical records dating back to 2002. Officials reported that the servers contained information about 4,585 students who have sought mental health services from the campus counseling center.

An UConn computer with the names and Social Security Numbers of more than 10,000 university applicants was stolen, according to a local news report.

The computer, stolen from an IT storage cabinet at university’s West Hartford campus, had applicant files ranging from 2004 through July 30. UConn officials are still investigating the theft, which was discovered on Aug. 3.

Students at UC Davis and California State University, Sacramento now have the ability to link their campus ID cards to US Bank and Wells Fargo, respectively, according to the Sacramento Bee.
