Starting next week, Harvard students will have to be careful about how they swipe their new ID card, at least in dining halls and several other facilities. They’ll have to flip the card upside down and use the smaller stripe on the card instead of the larger one they may be used to. This is being done for security purposes, since the smaller stripe, which contains a number referencing the student’s cash account, is more secure.

The university switched to new ID cards earlier this year after a security breach which put the old ID cards at risk. If students forget their cards, backup cards will be available to let students eat while they are getting used to the new system, said one Harvard dining official.

MasterCard announced that it intends to present its contactless payment cards to Azerbaijani financial market in 2012.

According to abc.az, MasterCard is in negotiation with the Central Bank of Azerbaijan, as well as Azerbaijan private banks regarding the implementation of projects on non-cash payments and the introduction of contactless cards for payments for applications in transit, dining and entertainment.
