UK students sleep safely with SALTO

Monday, October 6, 2008 in News

The Caerleon Campus of the University of Wales Newport in the UK has chosen security provider SALTO Systems based in Spain to provide secure access control for its student accommodation village. The university awarded the contract to SALTO business partner Gem Security Centre, Bristol, England.

“The new contract is part of a rolling program to update security and replace outdated mechanical locks and keys across campus,” said Jim Caola, Gem Security.

The first phase was to secure a number of main entrance doors to the student accommodation village with SALTO Mifare wall readers and online control units controlled via SALTO SQL Departmental software,” Caola said.

The school is already looking at a second phase, which will be to expand the card system further across campus, combining the access control function with cashless vending, print and photo copying.

The University of Wales, Newport was admitted to the University of Wales as a University College in April 1996. Caerleon Campus is the main administrative centre for the University. It is also home to several academic schools including education, art, fashion design, and media and design. [end]
