The college also includes a staff and student restaurant, gym, refectory, conference facilities, IT suites for imaging and fingerprint work and specialist teaching laboratories. A mortuary facility, a blood pattern analysis room and a center for examining vehicles will also be set up.

“Secure access control to prevent the access of unauthorized persons to and within the college while facilitating the entry of authorized persons is vital,” said Paul Carr, SALTO’s northern area sales manager.

SALTO’s independent business partner GB Locking Systems provided the hardware for the security contractors, supplying locks and wall readers for access control.

Electronic proximity locks are now fitted to all the student accommodations at the college, as well as the various training room doors and other facilities on site, with five online and five offline wall readers controlling perimeter access to the various training and accommodation buildings, Carr said.

The SALTO E9000 lock, designed for internal and external doors, can withstand fire for an hour. Power is supplied via three AAA batteries good for up to 45,000 openings. Each lock can support up to 64,000 users, and also includes anti-vandal protection to safeguard the electronics, said Andy Ayre of GB Locking Systems.
