Ringdale introduces new ID card production software

Thursday, August 14, 2008

Ringdale, an Austin, Texas-based provider of network connectivity solutions, has launched Sentinel CardCreator, photo ID card production software designed to work with standards-based card printers, for instance those manufactured by Fargo and Zebra.

CardCreator is scalable to fit any size organization’s requirements. The software can be installed on a standalone PC at an organization’s reception or security desk or on a corporate server for centralized management. This is useful for larger organizations that may collect the data centrally and print ID cards in one or more other locations.

A cardholder’s information is entered and viewed on a single screen and saved to a record in the database. A variety of design templates are included with the software and custom templates can also be generated. In addition, CardCreator incorporates biometric fingerprint technology from Ringdale, which allows capturing fingerprints of cardholders and saving them to the same database record.

CardCreator is the latest product in Ringdale’s access control platform. The software is compatible with Ringdale’s Sentinel UniPort Visitor Management solution to give a company more security and access control.

CardCreator “adds that extra layer of security organizations are now finding critical,” said Ringdale’s CEO Klaus Bollmann. [end]

In an effort to increase the security of the current EMV chip and PIN, SmartMetric has created an EMV card enhanced with biometrics.

The SmartMetric Chip & Biometric EMV Card incorporates fingerprints to activate the card. It’s designed to increase the security of standard EMV chip and PIN cards, which SmartMetric claims are still vulnerable to fraud attacks, even though they are safer than a magnetic stripe card.
