KU cards allows students to earn points for paying up

Stored value has been added to Kansas University’s Beak ‘EM Bucks Card for use both on and off-campus. In addition, students can earn reward points. Like most stored value accounts, students can use the card on campus for various services and at several off-campus restaurants, a pharmacy and for pizza delivery.

Students must sign up online to activate the rewards account. As points add up, students can view prizes they are eligible for on the KU Card Web site. The Beak ‘Em Bucks account, is automatically set up for a student when he receives his KU card. He can then add money to his account online, by cash-to-cash machines on campus or through optional campus fees.

Students in Cabell County middle and high schools will soon be paying for their meals using fingerprint scanning technology, according to The Herald-Dispatch.

Cabell County joins other counties in West Virginia already using the technology in an effort to improve the speed and accuracy of school breakfast and lunch lines. The county sent out letters to parents notifying them of the change, but still questions and concerns have been raised regarding the fingerprint scanning system.

India’s Bangalore University will soon launch a smart card-based ID for its students and faculty, reports Daily News & Analysis.

The e-ID will function as an identification and debit card. The university plans to add functions to enable hall tickets, attendance records, report cards and degree certificates.

As more and more schools make the transition to smart cards, it’s easy to forget that some universities are quite happy with their mag-stripe cards.
