The Biometrics Consortium, a leading industry group, defines biometrics as “automated methods of recognizing a person based on a physiological or behavioral characteristic. Among the features measured are; face, fingerprints, hand geometry, handwriting, iris, retinal, vein, and voice. Biometric technologies are becoming the foundation of an extensive array of highly secure identification and personal verification solutions.”

San Jose State University (SJSU) has announced that it will use Natural Security’s biometric authentication solutions at the school’s Spartan Shops.

The solution will see SJSU students use their mobile phone along with biometric information stored on a secure element. Biometric authentication combined with mid-range contactless technology will be used to allow students access to residential dining halls.

Fujitsu and ImageWare Systems Inc. have signed a contract to deploy a new cloud-based, multi-modal biometric identity management product and model.

The new solution is built on Fujitsu’s Global Cloud Platform and utilizes ImageWare’s CloudID products and multi-modal Biometric Engine. These companies will license these products on a service or transactional basis.
