Card systems at colleges and universities have typically centered around on-campus commerce and access. But today, they are extending their reach off-campus and opening their on-campus services to more commerce-savvy students, faculty, and staff. Credit card use has continually increased on college and university campuses, specifically in conjunction with their transaction systems. The companies provisioning campus card program technologies, as well as the universities, find themselves facing greater responsibilities and, more importantly, liabilities.

Charge Anywhere announced that it will launch its BlackBerry payments software featuring NFC technology at the BlackBerry World event this week in Orlando, Fla.

The Charge Anywhere Mobile Payment App for BlackBerry enables business owners to accept payments on their BlackBerry smart phone or PlayBook and securely process credit and debit cards on the go. Now, businesses operating on the BlackBerry 7 OS platform can accept NFC-enabled credit and debit cards like Visa payWave or MasterCard PayPass by simply tapping their customer’s card to an NFC-enabled BlackBerry Curve or Bold device.

Gemalto announced it has been appointed by Oman Information Technology Authority (ITA) as prime contractor to secure the country’s eGovernment services. Blackboard Transact’s Campus Commerce and Security Forum, scheduled for March 7, has been cancelled, said a Blackboard spokesperson.

The session was to be from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Blackboard Offices in Washington, D.C. The forum has not been rescheduled.
