Equitrac Express 4 helps colleges, schools optimize print, copy devices, reduce waste, contain costs

Tuesday, May 16, 2006

Equitrac has released its newest print and copy management solution designed for students and faculty at colleges, K-12 schools and libraries. Express 4 provides educational institutions tools for centralized management of their fleet of output devices, while offering print and copy quota allocation and payment options for users.

Market-leading Solution Provides Print Accountability for Color Printing and Other Device Output, Supports Leading Campus Card Systems and Other Payment Options

PHILADELPHIA– Equitrac Corporation, the leader in intelligent cost recovery and print management solutions worldwide, announced the release of Equitrac Express 4, a simplified, automated and highly scalable print and copy management solution for students, faculty, staff and guests at college and university campuses, K-12 school districts and libraries.

Announced at the annual AIIM-On Demand Conference & Exhibition, Equitrac Express 4 provides educational institutions an easy-to-use, powerful set of tools for centralized management of their entire fleet of output devices, while offering enhanced print and copy quota allocation and payment options for students, faculty, staff and campus and library guests. Equitrac Express 4’s usage management capabilities help reduce waste and contain printer and copier costs, minimize IT resource requirements and reduce printing-related help desk calls.

Equipped with a new Device Monitoring Engine (DME), Equitrac Express 4 enables effective management of the entire networked fleet of devices through a combination of real-time monitoring, intelligent rules-based alerts, a dynamic device status-based document routing capability and reporting on device faults and availability.

Centralized and easy application and modification of account limits serve to minimize unauthorized use of devices, helping to reduce waste in document output. Express 4’s new Color Quota Management feature enables institutions to confidently introduce color printing for students and other users, while easily controlling color output through rules that determine who may print to color devices and how much output they may produce.

Equitrac Express 4’s enhanced options for output cost allocation include per-semester student quotas, defined by job attribute and pricing, as well as flexible at-device payment options for faculty, staff, students and guests using cash, billing code, user account, stored value cards or campus cards. Express 4 now fully supports the popular CBord Odyssey and Blackboard campus- card accounting systems.

“School district and campus IT administrators will find in Equitrac Express 4 a powerful, easy-to-use solution for improved management of printer and copier fleets that helps control costs and keep paper and print waste to a minimum,” said Michael Rich, CEO, Equitrac Corporation. “Equitrac Express 4 enables easy device monitoring and advanced reporting to let IT managers control usage, while anticipating their office equipment service and deployment needs.”

Several features new to Equitrac Express 4 make it the market-leader in IT solutions for cost-effective print and copy management at educational institutions, including:

–Enhanced Follow-You printing capabilities, enabling users to retrieve jobs on any printer regardless of original destination, using either a PageCounter or a Release Station;

–Automated end-user PIN management, allowing users to create their own PINs and input PIN changes at PageCounter terminals or a designated web page, and letting IT managers assign temporary PINs and automate the process of resetting forgotten PIN codes;

–Comprehensive rules and routing enhancements enabling administrators to dynamically route jobs to the most appropriate output devices, based on the size and attributes of the printing job and the current device status; and,

–New capabilities for easy tracking of jobs deleted or purged from the print queue, whether ever actually printed or not, enabling analysis cost savings and waste reduction achieved through the secure release functionality.

Equitrac Express 4 integrates directly with existing IT infrastructures through the solution’s vendor-neutral support of multiple print workflows, database types, operating systems and user verification methods. Equitrac Express 4 also supports networked copiers, printers and multifunction devices from every major manufacturer. Equitrac Express 4 will be available for shipping in June 2006.
