Transit system serving Utah ski resorts seeks contactless ticketing solution

Thursday, January 26, 2006 in News

The Utah Transit Authority has issued an RFP for a fare collection pilot for its fleet of buses serving the areas ski resorts. The impressive aim of the project includes use of the ISO 14443-compliant system to also read seasonal, contactless lift tickets issued by resorts as well as payment for trips via PayPass and ExpressPay contactless cards and tokens.

RFP UT-06-02JH, will identify a “turnkey project provider, or in the alternative, as a contract integrator.”

Some specific requests from the RFP include:

3.1. Installation of contactless (ISO 14443 compliant, both A&B) readers along with data storage and WIFI communications devices on 41 UTA buses used for ski bus service in Big and Little Cottonwood Canyons.

3.2. Use of the readers to read season and period passes. This will include ski passes and employee IDs issued by ski resorts on media stock provided through the pilot.

3.3. Processing of single trip payments or accumulated daily charges via new contactless payment media (credit and debit cards) issued by MasterCard (Pay Pass), Visa (Contactless Visa) and/or American Express (Express Pass) with UTA serving as a merchant. [end]
